toddler fun with woodshavings

Alison has been working with toddler groups for over 15 years. As of 2018 she leads four toddler groups in Bedford, Cambridge and Royston. The teams, room layouts and families vary, but the welcome and friendliness are the same. At each group there is a time of free play including a sensory activity (playdough, sand, water, wood-shavings etc) and a craft. Half way through the session, everyone stops for the children’s snack time (fruit, breadsticks, rice cakes etc) and we gather together for story-time, which links to the craft and a song-time with plenty of action songs and nursery rhymes. Stories include Bible stories on at least monthly basis. Then the children go back to playing. Hot drinks (including real coffee) are available for adults throughout the session.

  • Mondays – Wesley Methodist Church, Cambridge 9:15 -11:30
  • Tuesdays – St John’s Church, Bedford 9:30 – 11:30
  • Thursdays – Castle Street Methodist Church, Cambridge 10:00 – 12:00
  • Fridays – Royston Methodist Church 9:15 – 11:15

Alison is aiming to increase the way she supports other toddler group leaders. She is available to advise toddler groups via email and ‘phone, or visits (on Wednesdays or afternoons, depending on location). The Praise and Play Facebook page is frequently updated with craft and play ideas. She was a founding member of 1277 (although commitments meant she stepped down from the steering group), and posts on the 1277 Facebook page as well as Scramblers Facebook page.

One aim for the next few months is to write up some her toddler friendly Bible stories with crafts and visuals to make available to others. Keep an eye open for these!
